RoomGPS Privacy Policy

1. Information you provide

We collect information required to create and operate your account and provide RoomGPS features. This may include:

• Your phone number and OTP verification information used for login.
• Your name, gender, profile photo, city, occupation, bio and optional email address.
• Property addresses, room photographs, rental details, amenities, availability information and owner contact details supplied in a listing.
• Flatmate profile information and preferences that you choose to make available to other users.
• Chat messages, booking requests, favourites, reports, feedback and support communications.

2. Location and device information

With your permission, RoomGPS may access your device location to show nearby properties, place listings on maps, improve location-based searches and help you enter property addresses.

You can control location permission through your device settings. Disabling location access may limit some location-based features.

We may also receive device identifiers, app version, operating system information, notification tokens, diagnostic data and crash reports needed to maintain security, stability and performance.

3. How we use information

RoomGPS may use collected information to:

• Authenticate users and maintain accounts.
• Create user, owner and flatmate profiles.
• Create, display and manage property listings.
• Provide maps, address search and nearby-property functionality.
• Enable booking requests and booking management.
• Enable communication between relevant users.
• Save favourites and preferences.
• Send service, booking, chat and security notifications.
• Detect fraud, abuse, spam or policy violations.
• Investigate reports, enforce restrictions and protect users.
• Provide support and improve RoomGPS functionality.

4. Public and user-shared information

Property listings, listing photographs, prices, property locations, profile information and flatmate information may be visible to other RoomGPS users when you choose to publish them.

Contact details may be displayed or shared where required for owner, tenant or flatmate communication. You should avoid posting sensitive information that is not necessary for using RoomGPS.

5. Service providers and data processing

RoomGPS uses third-party service providers to operate the application. These may include:

• Firebase Authentication for account sign-in and verification.
• Cloud Firestore for application and account data.
• Firebase Cloud Storage for photographs and uploaded files.
• Firebase Cloud Messaging for notifications.
• Firebase Crashlytics for diagnostics and application stability.
• Google Maps and location services for maps, geocoding and search.

These providers process information according to their respective terms, privacy policies and security practices.

6. Data sharing

We do not sell users' personal information.

Information may be shared:

• With users involved in a listing, booking or flatmate interaction.
• With service providers that help operate RoomGPS.
• When required by law, court order, legal process or a valid government request.
• To investigate fraud, abuse, security threats or violations of our terms.
• As part of a merger, acquisition or transfer of the RoomGPS service, subject to applicable law.

7. Chats, bookings and user-generated content

RoomGPS stores chat messages, booking records, profiles, listings, photographs and reports to provide the application's communication, discovery and safety features.

Users may block or report other users where those features are available. Reported content or accounts may be reviewed to prevent abuse and enforce applicable rules.

8. Payments

RoomGPS does not currently process online payments or store card, bank account or UPI credentials.

If online payment functionality is introduced in the future, this Privacy Policy and relevant disclosures will be updated before that feature is made available.

9. Data retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide RoomGPS, maintain security, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes and prevent abuse.

Some booking, chat, report or transaction-related records may remain after account deletion where retention is required for safety, fraud prevention, dispute resolution or legal compliance.

10. Account and data deletion

Users may request account or personal-data deletion through the available account controls or by contacting RoomGPS support.

We may need to verify the requester's identity before processing a deletion request. Certain information may be retained where permitted or required by law.

11. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards intended to protect user information against unauthorised access, alteration, loss or misuse.

However, no internet-based service or electronic storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

12. Your choices and rights

Depending on applicable law, you may be able to:

• Review or update your profile and listing information.
• Control camera, notification and location permissions.
• Remove listings or other content you created.
• Block or report users.
• Request access, correction or deletion of personal information.
• Contact us with a privacy-related question or complaint.

13. Children's privacy

RoomGPS is not designed for children who are unable to legally consent to use the service in their jurisdiction.

We do not knowingly seek to collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law. If you believe a child has provided personal information improperly, contact us so that we can investigate and take appropriate action.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when RoomGPS features, data practices or applicable laws change.

The revised policy will display an updated effective date. Material changes may also be communicated through the application or other appropriate means.
